Early in 2020, we started to support a community of researchers and practitioners on earthquake early warning (EEW)! We continue to host activities and share insights as the interest in EEW in Aotearoa New Zealand continues to grow!
During the 2021 New Zealand Society for Earthquake Engineering (NZSEE) Technical Conference, we presented EEW insights gathered from the community-of-practice. The conference proceeding discusses our shared values and interests, and it is now available to read at https://repo.nzsee.org.nz/handle/nzsee/2350
Our community-of-practice shares a common concern for EEW and regularly interact to find ways to do our research and practice better. The NZ EEW CoP comprises of people from universities, crown research institutes, the private sector, education and outreach, and emergency management. Each member has their own interests in EEW, but collectively the group wants to advance EEW research and application in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The paper discusses four common themes of interest for EEW in Aotearoa. The themes include technology, people, knowledge and broader perspectives on EEW. Read more about the details in the paper.
